Pennsylvania Governor Signs New Death Warrant for Mumia Abu-Jamal

On October 14, 1999, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge signed a new death
warrant authorizing the state to carry out the death sentence originally
imposed on Mumia Abu-Jamal in 1982 for the alleged murder of a Philadephia
police officer. Mumia, a former Black Panther and award-winning
journalist, is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on December 2.
